Salitre Jug
Jug with pear-shaped body tapering to a point. Long narrow cylindrical neck. Lip with flared rim and flat upper section. Baluster stem with central knot. Circular foot.
This jug is one of the most special pieces in our catalogue. Saltpetre (salitre in Spanish), which gives the jug its name, is one of the most important melting agents in the composition of the glass. It gives it a superior quality, transparency, shock resistance and durability. The spectacular blown glass catches the eye. The mould used to make this jug has been one of the most used during the first half of the 20th century in the main Spanish factories and has its origins in the traditional jugs of the Real Fábrica, but improved in terms of height and made more slender.
